SAT, ACT, PSAT, PreACT
We encourage students to take the SAT and the ACT in the spring of their Junior year. Then take the test they did the best on again in the fall of their Senior year and submit both their spring and fall test scores to colleges for their best score or "superscore". Colleges will often accept both tests and will look at the highest score of either test. The SAT, PSAT, and all of the college-entrance exams in the SAT Suite are digital. The exam can either be taken on a computer at the testing center, or students can bring their laptops from home (although some testing centers/schools may require you to take the test on their computers only). The ACT is offering a choice between testing formats: paper and pencil or online testing.
Testing for PSAT and PreACT takes place at Webster Schroeder high school. Registration for the PSAT and PreACT is in the counseling office. The PSAT takes place in October and the PreACT takes place in April.
SAT
The SAT exam is designed to measure academic aptitude. It is comprised of Critical Reading, Math, and Writing sections. Please note: a late fee is required for late registration.
ACT
The ACT exam is designed to measure academic achievement. It is comprised of English, Math, Reading and Science Reasoning sections and an optional Writing section. Please note: a late fee is required for late registration.
PSAT/NMSQT
The PSAT is given once a year in October. Many students take the PSAT, not only as preparation for the SAT, but also to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. PSAT is very similar to the SAT and has separate math and verbal sections and a third section testing English grammar. Each subject is scored on a scale of 20 to 80 and these scores are combined to create the National Merit Scholarship selection index.PreACT
The PreACT is typically administered to high school students during their sophomore year. In addition to predicting a student's performance on the ACT, the PreACT test measures academic achievement in English, math, reading, and science.Preparation
Both the ACT and SAT websites offer very good free study materials. We recommend you start your practice there, and if you feel you need more preparation, refer to the list of resources below.
